Spring Fluffing

 P1010005

With the beginning of a new season, many of us like to “freshen” up our homes (aka: Spring Clean) and bring in new treasures to help spruce up the old homestead.  There are many spring related items throughout the store, such as Easter decorations, festive vintage tablecloths for your dinner table, garden accessories and all sorts of vintage containers that would be lovely to hold a fresh flower arrangement, like the blue and white pieces below.

P1010025

To bring the outdoors in, add some cute vintage floral prints to the walls and place a little wicker table by the front door with a pot full of blooming flowers.

P1010041

This chicken wire cabinet would not only be adorable inside the home, but would also be perfect on a covered patio to use as a staging area to pot your plants.  Add some clay pots on the shelves and put the potting soil hidden away in the cabinets below.  This cabinet is shown in the photo above, too, on the right side.

P1010044

Milk bottles aren’t only for milk…they make great flower vases, too.

P1010045

If it gets too warm for you, come inside and sit in front of your vintage fan. :)

The white ladder to the right would make a nice display piece for inside or out.  It could be hung horizontally from under a patio roof to be used to hang buckets filled with flowers from.

Our feathered friends are making their appearance in our yards and are quite happy to be plucking the bugs off of the rose bushes!  How about bringing in a bird cage and fill it with potted flowers, a little vignette of bird figurines and nests or place it outside and use it to hold candles.

P1010048

Need a pillow for your garden bench?  We have handmade burlap pillows for sale, too.  There are also other pillows throughout the shop that would be a nice addition for that comfy reading chair or hammock that will soon be getting plenty of chair time.

Till next time…..enjoy our spring weather!

Oh Baby, Baby!

 P1010014

Today I thought I’d share with you some adorable vintage items for the youngsters.  Sweet sets of dishes for baby make adorable shower presents.  This Little Bo Peep set is precious and the divided plate helps to keep food separated, like the icky peas.  :)

Below we have vintage cupcake picks with clowns and little game pieces that would be cute on a cupcake as well.

Did you have a rocking horse when you were little or loved to ride on a carousel or go up and down on a see-saw?

The little pony would not only be cute as a display piece in a child’s room, but it would make a great prop for a photographer to use.

P1010021

P1010016

Sweet accessories for a child’s room are all throughout the store, like this cutebeach boy (above).  Why not use vintage silver plate baby cups in a nursery to hold Q-tips or cotton balls?

P1010036

The antique keepsake cat is a great piece to use for display as is the 1930’s composition doll.  A little ABC plate and set of child’s flatware would make a lovely shower gift for the mother-to-be.

P1010022

If you haven’t already done so, stop on by to see The Antique Warehouse, too!   It is our annex behind our antique mall and there are some wonderful treasures out there to be found.  Becky Lee is selling a lot of pieces to repurpose, like old doors and windows.  Faith has some primitive items and Cliff has a nice selection of Mid-Century Modern.

See you soon!

Victorian Glove and Collar Boxes

P1010184

The Victorian Era was so beautiful and items were made with exquisite detail and beauty, like these antique celluloid collar and glove boxes that we have for sale at this time.

Many have lovely romantic images of couples and pretty images of lovely women, often times adorned in fanciful ruffled clothing and hats.

P1010181

P1010182

The Victorian era would not be without the use of floral images, especially roses, being used a lot in their design.

The boxes have circular fabric covered moldings inside for women to store their starched lace collars.  These utilitarian pieces were not only beautiful, but functional as well.

P1010183

Below is a glove box with a beautiful Victorian couple on the front with a bit of an Asian influence with the embossed edging.

P1010185

P1010187

Because these boxes are over 100 yeas old, there will often times be cracking or wear on the outside, but when looking at these, keep in mind that they were used in day-to-day life.

P1010186

They look pretty in a display.  We have a few of these at the front desk but there are others in the store as well.

P1010188

Remember, our outside parking lot sale with be this Saturday, March 2, from 8AM till 3PM.  Free donuts and coffee will be available inside the store for our customers.

Looks like a nice weekend, too!  Hope to see you out there!

Many Changes Going On!

P1010180

When you arrive to our store, you will notice the beautiful NEW awning that we just installed this week over the front door.  We will be sprucing up the outside with potted plants as well to help identify the entrance to the store.

In back of the store we are expanding and adding a large area that will host furniture and other larger collectibles.  Cliff has his corner set up with a nice variety of Mid Century Modern pieces.  Other dealers will be setting up their spaces soon.

P1010193

P1010191  P1010192

We are also working on a DELI out in back of the store as well.  More about that soon.

Looks like the weather is getting better!  March 2nd will be our first outside Flea Market from 8 AM till 3 PM, weather permitting.

Pretty Reds And Romantic Touches

 P1010043h1

Courtship and love, hearts and flowers, cherubs and cupid…all symbols of Valentine’s Day.  But do we really need a “day” to show how much we love someone and to shower them with jewelry, chocolates and a sparkling beverage?  I say not.  Why not have these touches around every single day of the year?

Beautiful glass candy containers can not only hold candy, but how about an abandoned bird’s nest or add some water to float a pink carnation in?

 P1010031e1

Fancy up your desk with a cute cherub pen holder, after all, the office shouldn’t be boring….

P1010039h1

…..and have a little chalkboard sitting around the house to write love notes, your child's name on, or reminders for the day.

P1010037m1

Red dishes aren’t just for Valentine’s day, they can be used year round or for Christmas as well.  These red plates would be a lovely background for a lighter colored plate with hints of red on white…

P1010045c1

….like these pretty English red transferware dishes.  Aren’t they sweet?

P1010048d1

As Martha Stewart proclaims, dishes don’t need to match.  Mix up odds and ends of stemware and cordials.  That way, your guests will have their “own” glass and won’t confuse it with someone else.  Who needs those clip on stem charms?

P1010049e1

Speaking of ends up, fill these pretty pink glasses with a lovely sparkling wine…and cheers!  Bottoms up!

Happy Valentine’s Day to all of you from all of us at The Antique Warehouse!!!!
