Is Gardening On Your Mind?

Tis the time of the year to spruce up the old homestead and garden!  Grab a stack of Garden Magazines from the book store for inspiration and then hit the stores to choose that perfect annual or perennial to plant.

Adding garden touches doesn’t stop with just the flower beds.  How about building a potting shed and add fun vintage items, such as old garden tools, clay pots, seed packets, garden signage, a collection of flower frogs, etc. for display in the shed?

The antique seed packet holder is a wonderful display piece to pay homage to days gone by when pieces like these were placed in the town’s Mercantile shop and held seed packets for sale.

When planting flowers in pots, think “outside the pot” (if you will) and use something other than a clay pot.  How about filling the SUGAR container with red geraniums?  Just drill a few holes in the bottom of the piece for drainage.

The vintage flower frog is not only fun to use as a display piece (or to actually use for a flower arrangement) – how about using it on your desk to hold pens and pencils?

Need a cute container for your potting soil?  How about this DIRT canister?

You can even corral your gardening tools in the old egg gathering basket.

These old wagons make a great planter for flowers.  You can rest already potted plants inside the wagon OR fill the wagon with some potting soil and plant flowers inside of it.  You can even move the wagon around in the garden for a bit of a change up, or to allow the flowers to have a reprieve from the scorching summer sun.

And when you are done having fun in the garden, how about grabbing an ice cold glass of Sweet Tea and playing a game of Croquet?

Be creative.

Be inspired.

Have fun!

First Of The Year Peddler’s Faire & Grand Opening Of Vintage Deli

It looks like we are “ON” for our first Peddler’s Parking Lot Sale on Saturday, April 5th!!!  In addition to our first sale, The Vintage Deli – which is just around the corner from the shop – is having their Grand Opening and will be serving lunch items.

Awesome soups and salads and a wide assortment of vintage style sandwiches to choose from.  Generous portions leaving you quite content, too.  Having had tasted several menu items myself, my personal favorite is the Turkey Pesto sandwich and the Grilled Chicken Salad.  Oh yum!!

Inside the Antique Warehouse, expect 10-25 percent off sales from most vendors. Just look for the bright orange SALE signs posted throughout.

We have recently expanded into a back building and there are an additional 15 vendors there.  Welcome to our new vendors!!!  Glad to have you here!!

Kitty Cats and Puppy Dogs

One of my favorite things to do as a child was to go visit my Nanny at her home.  Even as a small person, I liked to walk around and look at all of my Nanny’s collectibles that she had in her home.  Though not a big collector of “stuff”, what she did collect was always interesting and carefully placed in small vignettes.  Above her sofa was a shelf and on it were two Siamese Cat figurines (of which I now take care of).  When I see figurines of animals, I always think of my Nans, as we called her.

Our store is full of such whimsical creatures…dogs, cats and other kind of animal figurines.

Below is a collection of “mans best friend” that are demure, playful, serious and cute.  There are several breeds to chose from, too.  They don’t require vet bills and certainly don’t cost anything to feed, but they do require a bit of dusting now and then.

What is Ephemera?

Many folks collect it, but what does that word mean?

According to Wikipedia, the definition is as follows:

Ephemera (singular: ephemeron) is any transitory written or printed matter not meant to be retained or preserved. The word derives from the Greek, meaning things lasting no more than a day. Some collectible ephemera are advertising trade cards, airsickness bags, bookmarks, catalogues, greeting cards, letters, pamphlets, postcards, posters, prospectuses, defunct stock certificates or tickets, and zines.

The first part of the definition is shocking…..not meant to be retained.  Well, well…..I do believe that this definition certainly doesn’t pertain to how we view Ephemera.  It is loved, respected and appreciated and very much collected.

Below are just a few examples of collectible EPHEMERA, or paper items.  Many crafters seek these old graphics for crafting projects and others look for these beautiful graphics just to collect.  Some of my favorite Ephemera come from the Victorian time.  The artwork is detailed, colorful and just as sweet as Grandma’s home baked goodies.

Many of our vendors have Ephemera for sale in their spaces – some more than others.  Barbara has been bringing in a lot of antique Ephemera and has each item carefully packaged.  From antique photos, post cards, French seed packets, greeting cards, Victorian advertising and calling cards – just to name a few.  Below is a photo of one of her spaces where she has them offered for sale.  A person could spend a lot of time in her space and having fun looking through all of the Ephemera.  Barbara also makes hand made cards and tags, such as the adorable Happy Easter ones shown in the last photo.

Feel free to copy and paste the images from this post.  A good resource for other other Ephemera images are on a website titled The Graphics Fairy.
